Eric: I became interested in this space back in the mid-90s, started reading about successful managers in this space and have been monitoring their careers for a few decades now. I have run managed accounts, hedge funds, other mutual funds, and implemented these rules based strategies in different contexts. Long-short equity, managed futures, and now all-weather.

I would say that my interests have led me down this path where I personally like a systematic approach. It’s congruent with my own personally utility function about what works in the world and my background in data analysis, database design, data collection, data integrity, things like that. Those are really important but deeply boring topics; but they’re essential.

I’m one of those strange people who just has enough data background, programming background, but then real-world high pressure investing in futures and forwards and currencies, that it’s a nice mix together. I also think that, and I won’t take credit for this, but my personality is a good fit for this discipline because I’m not a very excitable person, but I want to win, and I know the way to win is to win the marathon. The way to win is by not screwing up, never breaking discipline and just stay the course and follow the plan. That’s the way to win. There is honor in that. I don’t need to be a hero in the short term. I don’t need to make any crazy calls, I’m not trying to win any sprints or awards.

My job is to be a steward of wealth compounding in a diversified manner globally for the next 30 years and that’s what makes me happy.

All investing, including all weather investing, involves a certain amount of risk. The all-weather investment approach strives to distribute and control risks but may reduce the potential returns of the portfolio. While all-weather investing aims to provide stability through various market conditions, investors should be aware of the potential risks and limitations of the strategy and consider their own risk tolerance and investment objectives before implementing it.

Investing in securities involves risk of loss that investors should be prepared to bear.
